A Soldier's Play

There are very few large cast shows at Fringe where every single actor is on point at all times. But this is one of them. Great staging and direction by Victor Isaacs helping craft (and give) performances real and connected. Strong performances across the board but I would be remiss if I didn't mention stand-out moments from Dominic Daniels, Ryan Lacey, and Rosney Mauger. Powerful stuff. I advise witnessing it for yourselves.... full review

OMG OMG OMG you guys! From line one, this was gold. Fantastic music, hysterical book, terrific performances, great direction (You GO, Andy K!), and so much throwback fun! Great comedic surprises and an impressively fast 365 days with arcs for everybody! YOU get an arc and YOU get an arc and YOU AND YOU AND YOU! And YOU get a Kurt Cobain wig! Go see this one. It's way fun and you'll be glad you did!... full review

Loves Adventures

There is some really good material in LOVES ADVENTURES. The script is solid, Esther Mira and Faith Kearns in particular did a good job with the language and archetypal characters. But the choice of an 80's theme was muddy and made no sense to me - I'm not a proponent of needing classics to stay in period, but nothing felt "80's" about it except for the clothes and the music choices. This resulted in a "relaxed" and sometimes sloppy "modern" feel to the work, though the language demanded diction ... full review

TURBULENCE!

Aaaaand they do it again. God, I love Robot Teammate. It happens to me every time I watch a show of theirs: I always think "Wow, they really created specific character types... wow, that twist was totally organic and really moved the relationships along!... how does this kind of well-crafted storytelling seem so effortless!!? And can I watch it again!?" Laugh-out-loud funny (Dave, you're my MAN... or my... ROBOT!), fabulous songs (with a truly incredible a capella number that gets you right in th... full review

The Faggot King or The Troublesome Reign of Edward II

Run, right now, and get a ticket to this. Maybe twice. I'm not surprised by the quality of this show, as everything I've seen the ensemble and production company do in the past has been top-tier, but this one was special - phenomenal acting across the board (and shout out to incredible diction, use of language, and energy!!!), great direction and combat choreography, and an anachronistic slant and major sequence that... yer just gonna have to see for yourself. Standing ovation material. ... full review

Bono and The Edge Waiting for Godomino's

When I first saw this title I thought "This is either going to be amazing or a disaster. There is no in between." Well, it's amazing. Great performances (with a stand-out by Jeff Blumberg!) all around, and it's way more than a parody - GODOMINOES tackles the idea of fame and how we can quickly and accidentally lose touch with our humanity and personal relationships. Plus there are U2 jokes. Check it out, definitely.... full review

Easy Targets

Can you give stars? Five. Five stars. Amazing, amazing show. I have a great affinity for shows about bad theatre (and bad one-person theatre in particular) and these actors nailed it. And then I nailed them. With socks. And it was glorious. Go. ... full review

Why We Become Witches

I was walking out of this show saying "Y'know, I've seen a lot of really good modern theatre with fun scripts, good material, and poignant stuff." But WITCHES has a GORGEOUS, lush, poetic script with beautiful imagery delivered with pitch-perfect poise, grace, and style by Lisa Wyatt - it was a reminder of what great classical theatre done right felt like. A simple yet evocative set, great direction by Kate Motzenbacker, and fun use of props and audio (allowing nuanced reactions from the sole act... full review

GORGEOUS! A gigantic idea with oodles of complexity which boils down to simple, profound, and emotional truth. The set and design are delicious - I want to LIVE in that space - and the corresponding costume design is elegant. Great direction with interesting and unique points of entry for the audience, and truly great performances by all - Katelyn Schiller and Amanda Zarr standing out as raw, incredibly real people in a dreamlike world we should all be so lucky to visit. And the cat. Is fantastic... full review

Narsociety - The Social Media Shaming Musical

The songs and choreography were fantastic, the characters are well-drawn, and the story structure is really solid. The themes and situations do a wonderful job of highlighting the problems of technology in our day to day lives, it's effect on us as a society and as individuals, and does a good job of telling both sides of the story, creating real conflict and emotional tension. I was totally in for the ride. The show abounds with incredibly well-done and synced video footage. Ironically, this... full review
