The Duchess & the Stripper

Fantastic. It's always heartening to see a drama at the Fringe which really nails it - and boy, this nails it. Great writing, great direction, and the performances of Blaire Chandler and Alli Miller are outstanding. They each have such ease on stage, inhabiting the characters like a second skin, and playing off one another (and the great Krista Conti) beautifully with zipping dialogue. With an important and powerful theme, and THE DUCHESS AND THE STRIPPER is one of the best shows at the Fringe th... full review

Introspective, creepy, fun, disturbing, thought-provoking.... I mean, talk about a truly immersive experience! INTERNAL, especially if you let yourself really get into it, is an extremely well-produced nightmare scenario with the most terrifying monster imaginable - your own thoughts. An amazing concept executed perfectly!... full review

REVENGE OF THE ROOTBEER: The Sequel To Night Of The Rootbeer

I just can't. This is all so pointless. Like, why? At the price points of "Free" and "Free," I still felt overcharged and they wouldn't give me my money back. My time? Yes, they agreed to transport me back an hour so I could avoid the show, but it's still not worth it as I have vague memories.... feelings?... memories. ... full review

Dandy Darkly's All Aboard!

In Dandy Darkly’s All Aboard!, it’s better if you don’t know exactly what you’re getting into when hopping on board Dandy’s story train. He’s a master in the oral tradition of storytelling and creates vivid characters and situations which, in the flick of a phrase, instantly turn into something for more insidious. Each story he tells is better than the last and he weaves what appear to be disjointed tales into a seamless and exciting fabric. I was reminded of Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman more than o... full review

Up front: Brigette was my Scholarship mentee for 2019. I had no creative connection to the show. Holy cow this show is great. Not only is the story of a girl discovering her heritage interesting, especially through the lens of cultural food dishes, but Brigette is a fantastic storyteller! She's honest, connected, and it's hard to believe that the show isn't a first-hand account with her simply walking us through the most important moment in her life. A tight script and fluid direction by Ch... full review

All the awards. Just give it all the awards. And I don't just mean Fringe. Valley Theatre Awards, Tony, Oscar, just give it awards. A room that looks like my apartment legit became outer space, Katelyn Schiller is... literally an otherworldly talent. Nick Rhinewald-Jones has done his best piece so far. I was expecting this, but I was not expecting THIS. And now it's sold out so I can feel all special and haughty and SO I SHALL!! (dons top hat and cane and looks down at you)... full review

Under the Table and Dreaming

In Under the Table and Dreaming, Lanchi Le makes her writing and directing debut with a story by Holly Hark about Andy and Sid, the human kids from Toy Story. But this is no sequel to the Pixar franchise. The show tells the what-if story of Andy and Sid becoming friends, discovering their attraction to one another, and ultimately having a long, rocky relationship in the adult world.
