TIMEHEART

I saw Timeheart for their preview performance and it was a blast! The cast is hilarious and sharp, the writing is ridiculous and at the same time has wit and heart. The music is great, and the energy was contagious. The performers were really with the audience the whole show, and it allowed for a really fun and interactive show. Out of the shows I've seen so far the playful spirit and chutzpah of this group really spoke to me in regards to the energy Hollywood Fringe shows should have.... full review

Four Clowns presents Me Rich You Learn

david anis · June 25, 2013 uncertified reviewer
This is definitely new territory for 4 Clowns, I've enjoyed their past productions, and was wondering how the humor would translate outside of the familiar format. Clowning however exists without nose and soon I discovered this piece contained much of that same charm I've come to expect from them. Although admittedly more violent and expletive filled. The emphasis of the humor definitely goes into endless One-liners from TR and the awkward charm that makes Martin the Tax Agent so- surprisingly... full review

The Pokemusical

My favorite parody of pokemon thus far! Witty, fun and... shit it brought out the kid in me. Loved the references, and clever take on the shared experience pokemon has with most of us. This piece also offers some unique and thoughtful variation when it comes to the Pokemon story. Shout outs to Gary and Pikachu, hell shout outs to everyone I had a blast!... full review

First Date Night

Why aren't there more reviews for this?? Checked out this show at random for my girlfriend's first time at the Hollywood Fringe. It was our favorite show that evening! It's a fun night out with some endearing characters and stories, and there are some hilarious bits as well. We both just loved the older actress in the first scene, just an incredibly charming performance! I don't see many theatre pieces lately that I feel would be accessible to a truly broad audience, but this is one I would ... full review

EXORCISTIC: the Rock Musical Parody Experiment

david anis · June 25, 2013 uncertified reviewer
I agree with many in that I definitely was expecting a different show when I went in the theatre. I was expecting a more straightforward parody of the Exorcist. Perhaps I should have put more weight in the reading the last word of the title(Experiment). Pleasant surprise though, although surprising- the direction this piece takes offers up a more humorous perspective to the source material through the journey of Orgasmico's Theatre Troupe. There was some awesome fucking belting, and some fuck... full review

The Interview

The subject of this play intrigued me and I had heard great things. Many had said it was going to be a bit intense. I felt the opposite, In dealing with torture there needs to be a sense of fear. I never felt that fear, much of the stage combat was poorly blocked and it disconnected me from the piece. The ideas expressed in the writing have a lot of potential but the theatrical experience needs to be more immersive.... full review

Me Love Me

That was fucked up. Our protagonist makes bad choice after bad choice. I was shocked at how far wrong he could go. Sto's performance as Cluck was hilarious and touching. You feel for all the characters, even Tuck although it's complicated. Just a hilarious and unexpected experience with this show, I definitely won't forget it!... full review

THE OTHER F WORD

david anis · June 25, 2013 uncertified reviewer
The pen really exists. This is a real thing, during the performance I thought it was just part of the story- but once they started reading the reviews I realized, 'Holy crap they they're serious.' A inventive take on theatrical storytelling it became more of a discussion then a performance. Although it was a performance with some fun zingers and thoughtful structure, this change in gear was definitely appreciated. Always glad to see a show that actively takes on issues, and for a great cause ... full review
