Absolute Zero

Legit offering from Writer, Director, Star, Ryan Lisman. Normally I am very leery of anybody wearing those three hats in one show, but it works out here. I wonder what else we might have seen with one or two more pairs of eyes on the piece, but what-ifs aren't a reason to stay away. ... full review

#HAPPYHANGOVER

I enjoyed my time very much with this show, and there was never a risk of the experience overstaying it's welcome. Funny & sincere, these folks put together a great experience, and I left me wanting to get to know these characters a bit more.... full review

Thenardiers Inn - A Les Miserables Cabaret

Ah the most useless of reviews, glowing praise for a show that has been sold out for weeks. But I'm doing it anyway, because this show, and these performers deserve it! The "only way to see Les Miz" is my sum up. I have loved the original for almost 30 years, and I have seen some great performances in that time, but I can't imagine docilely sitting back and watching that show even one more time. Instead being greeted as I walk in by Madame Thenardier, chatting with various other under... full review

Eleemosynary

Sometimes you walk blind into a show, and just have to hope that you enjoy it. If only it turned out this well for me every time. El (for short) is a marvelous and engaging story of three extraordinary women that grabs you in the first moment and simply doesn't let go until the end. For although these women are extraordinary (and extraordinarily well-played by the trio of actresses that make up the cast) their struggles are very relatable. Not everyone has a spiritualist mother, but everyo... full review

Full disclosure - I have known Michael-Anthony Nozzi for over 20 years, so if you think I can't be objective, take this review with a grain of salt. But the simple truth is that my long affiliation here just makes the review better, and here's why. Mike Nozzi disappears into this role. For over an hour I watched Truman Capote on that stage where the promotional materials told me I'd find an old friend. From the moment when you first hear his voice, to when you then see the physical work, ... full review

No Traveler: A Comedy About Suicide

graydon schlichter · June 23, 2015 certified reviewer
Ok, let's get the elephant out of the room. Yes, this play is about suicide. And, yes, it's funny. Very funny. If there is no way for you to not be deeply offended by this I won't try to talk you into seeing the show. But for everyone else... This piece is very well done. Penny Pollak slips into and out of the 1/2 dozen or so characters she portrays in this one-person show, effortlessly. Granted, the technical support (lights, sound, and prop design) support her quite well in this, but ... full review

Love Labours Won

Writer. Director. Star. The most feared set of one-word sentences in the history of the stage. Relax though, they have no power here. First, the play. Love Labors Won is a modern verse play. If you love the works of Shakespeare, stop reading right now and do what you must to get tickets and attend. For the rest reading, while the play is in verse, modern is a key word here, and even if you have struggled to follow classic verse plays in the past both the words and the performances... full review

Annabella

graydon schlichter · June 19, 2015 uncertified reviewer
Annabella is a mystical Grimm-style fairy-tale operetta, which begins beautifully, journeys to emotional highs and lows, explores darkness true to its stylistic roots and then ends in the only way it could. Glorious vocal performances by the entire cast (I hesitate to single anyone out) supported by truly wonderful orchestrations played by co-creator Sam Johnides are enough reason to see this show. But layered onto this musical foundation are the wonderfully creepy Marionette Trio and the s... full review

The Poe Show

Enter the "studio" take your seat and settle in for the David Allen Poe-tterman* Show! This is a concept so good that I wonder where it's been all my life. Brendan Hunt (Poe) disappears so completely into this role that I almost can't recognize him in the smiling headshot on the show page. His affect his perfect, and there were a few moments in the show where I *think* a small technical glitch occurred and Hunt in his Poe-sona reacted precisely as you would expect. Hunt is supported by a ... full review

Four Clowns presents The Halfwits' Last Hurrah

graydon schlichter · June 19, 2015 certified reviewer
In the sea of reviews for this show, I am not likely to break new ground. But to sum - it's a great time with a little bit of everything across the live performing tradition. If you have seen an act on stage or in an old movie there's a chance you will see it here. Odds are it will be funnier here, more engaged with the audience here, and more chocolaty here. Kudos to the creators and the very strong ensemble for bringing this fantastic show to the stage. ... full review
