Round Rock

Theatre Unleashed and Writer/Director Aaron Kozak set the bar high when it comes to what to expect at this years Hollywood Fringe Festival. The acting, costuming, and scenery (not to mention the brilliantly crafted script) take us back to a "simpler time" and work nearly flawlessly together. Drew Farmer, Caleb Mills Stewart, Joey Miller, and Rachel Kerbs lead a horrendously talented cast that deserve a never ending standing ovation for their commitment to their characters and extremely chal... full review

eggshell

Søren Olsen explores the word of light, sound, and complete gibberish with his carefully choreographed play, Eggshell. The talents of Elizabeth Colon Nelson, Gabriel McKinney, and Tim Reid shine through Olsen's meticulously outlined original performance piece that takes its audiences on a whimsical journey the the topsy-turvy world of the machine. While Eggshell isn't for everyone, I urge those looking for a "fringy" experience to take a crack at it. ... full review

➵ Crushed ❤

alex scott · June 17, 2012 certified reviewer
Kiersten Lyons rocks the house in her one woman show, Crushed, playing at The Underground Theatre! Not only is she highly engaging with her fun overheads and (minimal) audience participation, but she's able to captivate and hold her audiences attention by just having fun on stage. She is a true performer, and has a great show because of it. Crushed is the hidden gem of this year's Fringe. GO SEE IT! ... full review

Red Bastard

Eric Davis is a performer who cannot be contained. Audiences should be warned that, while hilarious - Red Bastard is an evening of crazy, in your face, and unpredictable theatre. Anything can and will happen. ... full review

RISE

Zenith Ensemble's inaugural production and world premiere of Rise by first time playwright Cal Barnes is extremely impressive (to say the least). Brett Colbeth's ability to stay committed to his character, even while relying on his unsuspecting audience to respond, and playing off their response, as well as Gowrie Hayden's seductive and unpredictable nature make this show simply fun to watch. ... full review

Confessions of the World's Worst Missionary

alex scott · June 10, 2012 certified reviewer
Lina Alfinito's Confessions of the World's Worst Missionary has a great title, tons of energy, and lots of heart. While I have to be honest and say that I was expecting something more along the lines of the recently popular Book of Mormon, it's much more refreshing as a theatre artist to see that people are finally going out on a limb and taking some risks. While Ms. Alfinito's show is a little rough on the edges (especially on technical side) and it takes a little bit of time for the solo pe... full review

Anaconda

alex scott · June 09, 2012 certified reviewer
I would be quick to caution the more conservative Los Angeles theatre crowd about this show, but Sarah Doyle's Anaconda, while almost too minimalist and under staged, is smart, edgy, and well crafted. The show takes it's audience on an unexpected journey through the world of a Defense Attorney , who's life comes crashing down after he's asked to take on a case connected to his dark past. It's slow to start, but certainly picks up when it needs to. With stand-out performances from it's supporting ... full review

VOICES IN MY HEAD: A LIFE***

alex scott · June 08, 2012 certified reviewer
Bill Ratner opens up in this light hearted, emotionally packed, one man, one guitar show. Audiences will be moved to laughter and tears as one of entertainment's most familiar voices recounts growing up and following his dreams - even if it wasn't the easiest path. The pictures Bill is able to create with his words, and the way he tells a story, are something you definitely shouldn't miss. A great way to start of HFF12!... full review
