25 Plays Per Hour

alex scott · June 23, 2013 uncertified reviewer
25 Plays Per Hour is fun, hilarious, and a great escape from the heavier side of Fringe. All of the performers shine as their multiple characters and Director Aaron Kozak does a nice job making the whole thing feel cohesive. I particularly enjoyed the plays "Muffins" by Ian Federgreen, "Fairy Journal" by Lee Pollero, and "The Lamp" by Aaron Kozak. A job well done to the entire cast and crew!... full review

Gracie and Rose

Anastasia Coon's beautiful one woman show Gracie and Rose is everything you want in a theatrical experience. The set, the lights, the costumes, everything works together in this production quite nicely. Taking everything into consideration, I thought the sound design became a bit too basic, and really overbearing, I would have loved this play with a violin accompaniment at times - it just felt too simple to me - and again - too loud, but that can easily be fixed. At times, I also questioned t... full review

The Real Housekeepers of Studio City

Move over broadway, Heidi Powers, Tom Moore, and Joe Greene have written a monstrously awesome new Musical that is fun for the entire family! The Real Housekeepers of Studio City transports it's audience into a fictional version of Studio City, California where your favorite TV Housekeepers are ready to answer the next wanted ad on Craigslist. Yes, the premise is a bit silly, but this hour long musical only exists for it's audience to relax and have a good time. And that's exactly what happen... full review

The Pokemusical

Finally a SOLID show so full of energy, you just can't contain yourself! The Pokemusical is exactly what it promises to be, a hilarious and heartfelt satire from beginning to end. The cast - STANDOUT! Seth Salsbury is a name to watch out for, Kelsey Schulte nails Pikachu, and Josh Hillinger as Meowth absolutely steals the show. The can sing, they can act, they can dance - and EVERY ONE of the 12 cast members is a tripple threat, just waiting to be reckoned with. The music, the live band, ... full review

Philosophy in the Boudoir

I was preparing for on stage hardcore porn, and if you do that, this show actually seems quite tame. This is a beautifully light production with very committed actors (not to mention flexible) who's only short-coming is a text that's a bit wordy. But it's Marquis de Sade, you can't mess with that. Yes, this play is edgy. Yes, this play has nudity. But yes, this play is totally worth it. Theatre is supposed to transport you - this is a show that most certainly does that. ... full review

Neko

The acting in this play, and an interesting premise save what would otherwise be a pretty horrible review. You don't start 15 minutes late, end 20 minutes late, and not warn the audience ahead of time. This is fringe, and if you do that - you cause people to be late to other shows: FRINGE RULE #1. The script is clever, the acting is pretty on par - though I wish the girls wouldn't FORCE tears... because that has to happen naturally to feel real on stage. I was actually impressed with the produ... full review

NOT ANOTHER TEEN SOLO SHOW

Rati Gupta is the Prom Queen of Comedy and late 90s nostalgia in her wonderful one woman play, Not Another Teen Solo Show. A simple, fun, well put together fringe-solo masterpiece. Anyone who went to high school in the late 90s will love it!... full review

Sewer Rats at Sea

ZK Lowenfels crafts a poetic script in this short fringe show that fails to live up to all of it's hype. And it pains me to be that honest, but I really can't tell you what the show was trying to do, or say, or convey - other than "hey look at me, I'm written by a self-masturbatory, smart-ass poet, to young for her own good". I was left... perplexed... unimpressed. Now don't get me wrong - the show is beautifully written... but it just dances in circles. Lack of character names make you forge... full review

Me Love Me

Maybe I'm sick and twisted... maybe I'm just a little bit fucked up, but my big complaint about Brandon Baruch's amazing new play is what we DON'T SEE. Sure, there's plenty of AMAZINGLY awesome and super connected moments between his two leads (Benjamin Durham and Sto Strouss) - but I really wanted this to be the play that didn't have any limits and didn't hold back - and in that respect, it kind of fell flat for me. Now, don't get me wrong. This is a great show, and Durham and Strouss are gi... full review
