Meet Fringe Central Technical Director Corwin Evans

Hi folks, my name is Corwin; you’ll usually see me fixing some technical thing somewhere, or telling longwinded stories that go nowhere. I wandered into the first Hollywood Fringe Festival with Theatre Unleashed, the first company I worked with in Los Angeles. I was doing sound design for “Friends Like These,” a piece which has since gone on all over the place.I took to the big tent at Artworks right away. Y’know, there’s not an awful lot of hang-out time when you’re cobbling toge...

Meet Fringe Central Scenic Designer David Offner

For the past three years, I have taken an almost empty space, and turned it into a place for socializing, drinking, networking and anything in between. Hi, I am David Offner, and I am the scenic designer for Fringe Central. My first design in the Hollywood Fringe Festival, was back in 2013. I was working with my longtime collaborator and very dear friend, Brandon Baruch, on a Fringe show that he had written. Then in 2015, Dave McKeever had asked me about designing a “bar space” at the Dragonfly. Thi...

Meet Fringe Central Lighting Designer Brandon Baruch

Hiya, I’m Brandon Baruch. I’m a playwright and a lighting designer specializing in experimental theater, opera, and dance. I’m also the guy who designed the lights for Fringe Central. My first foray into Fringe was in 2010, when I co-wrote and directed a silly piece called Deicide, a Sorta Musical. I became hooked by the HFF bug, and I’ve been involved ever since. I became Staff Lighting Designer in 2012 when I helped mount some colorful lighting in Fringe Central, before it became ...

A Fond Farewell to Fringe from Beloved Outreach Director Meghan McCauley

The first nickname I ever had at Fringe Central was “Pagan Meghan”. I’d driven up from San Diego to produce a show with my best friends, an original devised work called Pagan Play that made little sense but was full of heart. I was lucky the moniker rhymed, because it made it easier for people to remember my name. The Hollywood Fringe Festival happened to me very quickly. I met Ben Hill after a Town Hall at Theatre of Note. I met Stacy Jones (now Hill) onstage in the back room at Three Clubs, during...

Embracing the Fringe: Resigning Publicity Manager Brittany Gash's Farewell to HFF

Embracing the FringeI have never been the cool kid or the popular one – the girl that everyone wants to be like and hang out with.  Don’t get me wrong. I’m super rad awesome (do people say “rad” anymore?) – but in a geeky, loner, chicken wings and beer kind of way.  Google says that Fringe means “not part of the mainstream; unconventional, peripheral, or extreme.”  That’s pretty much me – minus the extreme. I’m not extreme at all.  ...

The HFF17 Interns: Bridget Driscoll

This is the first installment of a series of blog posts written by the HFF17 interns. Our yearly group of interns are an essential part of our festival team and this year’s bunch was absolutely outstanding. We owe them our deepest gratitude. *Upon graduating from college, your world is turned completely upside down almost immediately. The structured class schedule and being steeped non-stop in your studies and peer group requires some serious transitioning out of. This was the place I was in when I a...

The HFF17 Interns: Rachael Garcia

The newest installment of our intern series comes from HFF17 FringeTV Intern Rachael Garcia.  I have gleefully attended the Hollywood Fringe Festival over the past few years. I was drawn to its anything-goes spirit and supportive community. I’m a film production major so when I saw that Fringe TV was looking for an intern I thought it’d be the perfect opportunity to gain more hands on production experience, as well as contribute to and see the inner workings of an organization that supports lo...
