CAILIN HARRISON (Playwright/Director) an American and Irish citizen, is a graduate of USC’s MFA screenwriting program who is loving the climate change here in LA after living and working in London, New York and Chicago in film, television and theater with companies including CBS, FOX, USA, New Line, Columbia Pictures and Viacom Networks and ISSA-UK. She is currently a member of Fierce Backbone, Women in Film and Television, Alliance of Los Angeles Playwrights, and several USC women’s film organizations. Her favorite ways to avoid writing, directing and producing are globe trotting, sailing, swing dancing and shooting wildlife (with a camera).

JEREMY KEHOE (Playwright) is a playwright whose staged work includes “Car Play: She & Him”, “Killing Russell Crowe”, “Ready, Aim, You’re Fired”, “The Water Board” and “Idea Man”. Jeremy has had multiple stage readings and workshop productions of plays in Los Angeles and New York. He is a member of the Dramatists Guild and Alliance of Los Angeles Playwrights, and a former newspaper editor and reporter, where he earned awards from the NAACP and the New England Press Association.

jan o’connor (Playwright/Director) Jan’s The Girl Who Would Be King was nominated for Backstage and LA Weekly awards. Two of her short plays, Garden of Ashes and Angels Flight, were produced at New York’s Looking Glass Theatre this year. Her award-‐winning comedy, Taken For A Ride, is currently in its 7th production at LA’s Red Brick Road Theatre. Gayby’s Playdate, here at HFF, won festivals in New York and Minnesota and was a West Hollywood GLBT Play winner. Happily, almost all these plays were developed in LA’s Fierce Backbone Writers Workshop. Also a director, Jan just completed the annual Directors Lab West workshop in LA.

GABRIEAL GRIEGO (Director) has to keep this bio brief because there’re so many amazing people working on all the terrific Fierce Backbone projects there’s no room for each person to have more than 100 words each. She wishes there was more room to list all the other wonderful projects she has going on, theatre plays, movies, scripts, music and magical high end puppet shows… but alas, rules are rules. Thanks to her family for their everlasting love and support, Vic for the opportunity and a very special thanks and all my love to Sloe. Booyah!

Courtney Ryan (Director) is a PhD candidate in Theater and Performance Studies at UCLA. She received her MA in Dramatic Arts from UCSB, where she directed This Is A Play and her two woman show Mnsemosyne. Other favorite directing credits include For Whom The Southern Belle Tolls and All In The Timing. Courtney most recently assistant directed for Jon Lawrence Rivera in The Girl Most Likely To. She would like to thank Fierce Backbone and playwrights Cailin Harrison and Jeremy Kehoe for this opportunity.

TOM COOK Oscar and Emmy nominee T.S. Cook’s current plays include “Guest of the Sultan,” “Everything But,” and “Service.” He’s a member of Fierce Backbone Theater and Ensemble Studio Theatre-LA. His solo performance in “The Annual Meeting of the American Society of Lone Fishermen…” marks a return to acting after many years.

FIERCE BACKBONE
We are a group of playwrights, actors and directors who gather together
to develop new plays while also developing as artists in our respective fields. We shepherd plays through development from the writer’s first draft—staged readings, workshop performances, full production—with a supportive “peer-review” process, maintaining a writer’s vision through our diverse artistic talents.

This process has yielded our 7 productions in the Hollywood Fringe, encompassing 14 plays by 9 writers, utilizing 11 directors and 28 actors, producing 46 performances in 6 venues.

“The art of writing has for backbone some fierce attachment to an idea.” Virginia Woolf
