LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Friday, June 8, 2018 – This weekend, writer and producer Kathryn Taylor Smith returns to the Hollywood Fringe Festival for the second weekend of “A Mile in My Shoes.” Last week, the performance made its world premiere to sold out crowds and looks forward to repeating the show’s success.

“A Mile in My Shoes” is a solo show written and performed by Smith and directed by Zadia Ife. In this poetic dramedy (clever mix of poetry, drama & comedy), Smith portrays a variety of characters inspired by research and interviews with past and present members of the homeless community, as well as those who advocate for them.

With the underlying theme of “every shoe has a story,” Smith takes the audience on an enthralling journey where they become intimately entwined with the homeless community. “A Mile in My Shoes” is a socially conscious and relevant piece that speaks to the audience from a raw, uncensored, unapologetic perspective. It will make you laugh and cry but most of all it will make think. It will compel you to do more, to be better and to act kinder – not because they are homeless, but because they are human.

“I wrote ‘A Mile in My Shoes’ to introduce the homeless community in a new light through the eyes of the people who love them and want to help them. I want to people to really wonder about the individuals we all pass by on the streets…How did they get there? What did they do before they were homelessness? What is like to sleep on the streets at night? How can we help them get a better life? I also wanted to highlight the important work of various social services, shelters, teachers, police officers, community activists, non-profit organizations, etc., in fighting this epidemic.

We are so conditioned to just look past them, but for one evening, I want people to have the opportunity to really look AT them. Because, there, but for the grace of God, go I,” said Smith.

What the reviewers are saying:
