Los Angeles, CA. – ’ The Maya In Me’ is a one-woman show written and performed by actress and counselor, Tameka Bob, with the inspirational writings from the late Dr. Maya Angelou, widely considered as one of America’s literary laureates of conscience who wrote vividly and poignantly about life’s struggles and the ultimate victory through defeats.

The show was created by Tameka who describes it as, “One Woman’s Turbulent Love Story Guided by Dr. Maya Angelou’s wisdom”. Dr. Bob, who holds a PhD as a Mental Health Counselor and a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology, dedicates this performance as both a tribute to Maya Angelou, and as a way to reach out to people, especially women and young adults.

When asked about her reason for choosing the literary works of Maya Angelou, Tameka says “I believe [Dr. Angelou’s] wisdom for me is ‘When you learn, teach. When you get, give.’ She certainly believed in paying it forward. She wanted to help heal others by sharing her experiences. And that’s my motivation, to tell my story so that I can help another young girl to make wise decisions. As a result, I pray that they also pay it forward because sometimes we repress thoughts and actions from our past so it will not cause us any pain. However, it is always good to pull those difficulties back up to face them with honesty and clarity”. It is with this that Tameka hopes people who attend the show will be both inspired and empowered.

‘The Maya In Me’ is Directed by Jessica Lynn Johnson with Music by, Illatmospherics and Choreographed by Reyna Joy Banks. The show opens on Sunday, June 3rd at 4 PM with performances also on Saturday, June 9th at 7:30PM and on Saturday, June16th at 5:00 PM, at The Broadwater Second Stage, 6320 Santa Monica Blvd., Los Angeles, CA. 90038
