The play was workshopped in the New York Theatre Festival’s Winterfest, February 12 through the 18th 2018, and played at the Hudson Guild Theater in Chelsea, NY, where it received good notices, with the same cast and producing team. The producers have launched a Kickstarter campaign to help move the production forward, and have reached 50% of their goals. www.pizzaandwhine.com

In Pizza and Whine, after the heart-wrenching loss of their matriarch grandmother, cousins Millie, Stephanie, Jennifer, and Natalie find themselves at Emily’s West 55th Manhattan apartment. After not seeing each other in a year, the girls have come together to rehearse to sing at the funeral. Over pizza and wine, they share secrets and discuss the challenges they face – everything from careers, money, relationships, autonomy, to self-image.

“My daughter Raffaela, niece Veronica and I began the journey of creating Pizza and Whine after the loss of my mother and their grandmother, Millie. Over Italian spaghetti and meatballs (a lot of Cappricielli power meetings happen over food), the original play was born. The execution of this endeavor is NOT without the support of my dad, Tom D’Agostino, the heart and soul of my mom, the musical score by my cousin Jennifer, and the generosity and love of my sisters, JoAnna and Carmela and our family and friends.”
– Maria Capp, director

The creative team includes stage manager / costumer Mel Newman, stage manager / sponsorship coordinator JoAnna Kelly, sound design and music by Jennifer Aurelia, publicist David Roberson, executive producer Thomas J. D’Agostino, and production coordinator Marisol Diaz.

What the critics say:

“While the story does have a clear fictional element, I have the feeling that their grandmother would approve of such a touching way to honor her life and love of theatre.”
– Roger Gonzalez, LocalTheatreNY

“There was something charming and relatable about their Grandmother’s sayings and antidotes. The dialogue flows nicely and there are some lovely moments.” – Suzanna Bowling
