HOLLYWOOD, CA – Jordan Rosin and Yokko are internationally recognized physical theatre artists and teachers specializing in the Japanese post-war, avant-garde movement form known as Butoh. Having worked together for five years in NYC from 2011 to 2016 through their companies, The Ume Group (www.theumegroup.org) and Ren Gyo Soh (www.rengyosoh.com), they are re-uniting this summer in conjunction with the Hollywood Fringe Festival debut of Yokko’s award-winning solo show BUTOH MEDEA, and as part of Jordan’s first-ever multi-city workshop tour of the U.S.A., which includes stops in Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, Baltimore, Richmond, and Seattle. For the Hollywood Fringe Festival, they are proud and honored to be debuting their brand new workshop: “Resonant Bodies: Butoh & Movement Workshop for Actors.”

In this intensive four-day workshop, participants will utilize principles from a variety of physical theatre traditions (Butoh Dance in particular) to cultivate an awareness, availability, and responsiveness that will allow them to speak, move, and act with resonance in the dynamic space of the stage. Drawing on Alexander Technique, yoga, martial arts, Linklater Voice Technique, as well as systems of movement analysis like Viewpoints, Laban, and Bartenieff Fundamentals, teachers will help students to expand their expressive capacity while cultivating the awareness and sensitivity necessary to make healthy and sustainable choices in rehearsal and performance.

Suitable for both actors and non-actors, including performers of all varieties and levels of experience.
