LOS ANGELES, CA – What started out as a group of women exploring defining moments in their lives has become an intimate performance of life-changing revelations by the powerful women who lived them. “It’s not just acting. It’s reality,” says storyteller Phoebe Carter. “It’s Just My Life” will premiere new stories at the Hollywood Fringe Festival on June 4, 8, 17, and 21 at The Lounge-Studio 1, 6201 Santa Monica Blvd., Los Angeles, CA, 90038, one block east of Vine.

This original work was conceived and directed by Kathleen Rubin who says, “One of the things so powerful about ‘It’s Just My Life’ is that the audience, men and women, feel like participants in the show. You are sharing in the human experience. It’s as if you are having a one-on-one conversation.”

The stories are as eclectic as those telling them, but always come from the heart. Audiences get to know each of the women in a very real way and experience life through their eyes, mind, and soul. Each tale transcends gender, race, orientation, or age to reveal a universal truth. “The show is such a unique and honest look at people’s lives that it helps everyone involved, performers and audience members alike, gain an increased understanding of life,” said storyteller Jule Rotenberg. “I love being a part of this group of women. Fierce, brave, wonderful!”

From the transgender journey to the loss of a child, these stories reveal so much, and yet, for these women it has become part of their everyday lives. “My story is part of who I am today,” says storyteller Mary Kincaid, “and that’s just perfect.”

Throughout the show the emotions are real and happening in the present even though some of the stories are from the past. “It surprises me that I ‘feel’ my story each time,” said storyteller/songwriter Harriet Schock. “Sometimes it is hard to relive the pain, but now it reminds me how much I’ve changed since I first started.” Storyteller Nadine Khouri added, “We are all on a personal hero’s journey. By hearing other’s stories, we become braver, more compassionate, more committed, more inspired, more able to move through our own chapters.”

Each performance is unique with different stories and storytellers. It’s never the same. Storytellers at the Hollywood Fringe Festival include Phoebe Carter, Keli Daniels, Ali Deyer, Nadine Khouri, Mary Kincaid, Jacquelyn Levy, Gaye Lowenstein, Dawn Medina, Kelly Meyersfield, Sunita Param Olazabal, Jule Rotenberg, Kathleen Rubin, Jody Vaclav, and Shari Walker.

“It’s Just My Life” will preview Monday, June 4th at 8 pm, followed by performances Friday, June 8th at 6 pm, Sunday, June 17th at 8 pm, and Thursday, June 21st at 8 pm, The Lounge-Studio 1, 6201 Santa Monica Blvd., Los Angeles, CA, 90038.Tickets are $15 and may be purchased online at hff18.org/5330 or at the door 30 minutes before performances.
