Snap Honey

Maatology Productions is getting ready to unleash the wild and hysterical female impersonator in the clever and laugh-a-second variety show romp “Snap Honey.”

LOS ANGELES – Even though celebrated drag queen Vageena Honey has been making her signature brand of love, noise and trouble on the scene since 2007, she has yet to appear at Hollywood Fringe.

That changes now.

Vageena is about to make her festival-stealing debut in Snap Honey, produced by Maatology Productions and performing in June at studio/stage.

Snap Honey is a hilarious and introspective comedy, cleverly produced with elements of melodrama about international female impersonator Vageena Honey, who returns home to get interviewed and perform her one woman show Drag Whore about her rise to fame. The production takes place in two locations at the same time—Vageena’s one woman show at The Fox Theatre and on the set of talk show host Dr. Jones, on his popular show Introspect. Told in flashbacks, Snap Honey gives an in-depth view of Vageena’s life from her love of the Supremes as a boy to sexual torment from a high school bully and her first time performing as Vageena. Not one for convention, Vageena will have audiences remembering her name and her story.

“We decided it was time to introduce Fringe to Vageena, especially because her story and this show really has something for everyone,” said Marcus Ma’at Atkins, the show’s head writer, director and producer. “It’s an honest, heartfelt and hilarious show. It’s also interactive with the audience giving those who enjoy drag entertainment an opportunity to participate. Plus, there is a jaw-dropping scene that will get people talking.”

Vageena Honey first made her debut in St. Louis in 2007 in a show called Man-O-Logue, written by Atkins. After she was so well-received, Atkins and his company St. Louis-based Maatology Productions decided to create a vehicle for her. So Snap Honey was born four years later in 2011. After several years of productions in St. Louis, Snap Honey made its L.A. debut in 2016 at The Complex. Other characters were added, including Vageena’s mother, Mavis, created by former talent agent Andrea Carlton. By popular demand, Snap Honey also returned in 2017, this time at studio/stage.

Vageena is played by creative multi-hyphenate Jaron Hicks, who also co-wrote Snap Honey. An Inglewood resident and active member of the U.S. Air Force, Hicks is also an actor, model, dancer and singer with special skills in makeup. He has played Vageena since 2011 and is excited to bring her to Fringe.

“Snap Honey shows that we all go through many of the same experiences in life,” Atkins said. “And audiences will see that there is a Vageena in all of us when it comes to expressing who we are as human beings.”
