“There aren’t enough new plays that take big risks without feeling like experimental theater. This is one.”

“Jessica Jill Turner’s story and characters are unlike any I’ve seen, pitched at a perfect blend of humor and heart. Not only is the language fascinating, but its story is creative and unpredictable. This play goes nowhere near where you think it will, pivoting from hysterical comedy to profound sorrow almost effortlessly.”

the world premiere of
CHARLIE MOOSE MAKES HIS MOVE
…an official Pick of the Fringe at this year’s Hollywood Fringe Festival!
Written by Jessica Jill Turner
Directed by Sam Wilkes
A dark comedy about imagination and memory, and exploring the dangers of living solely in the space where they converge.

CHARLIE MOOSE MAKES HIS MOVE has so far played to packed houses on the Sacred Fools 99-seat MainStage (1076 Lillian Way) and received rave reviews across the board. We would like to invite you to attend one of our remaining scheduled performances, even though our run for the Fringe is coming to a close, an extended run is in the works and additional press during our final week would greatly benefit this wonderful new play:

THURSDAY 6/22 @1130pm
SATURDAY 6/24 @7pm

Meet 11-year old socially inept Simon Tarbox. His mother is Nancy Tarbox, an aggressive self-proclaimed sociopath who is likely trying to kill him. His best friend is Charlie Moose, a morbidly obese and immobile novelist obsessed with a false stripper named Honey. Through this unlikely friendship both seek refuge from a dismal reality in the worlds of their respective imaginations. Eventually, their fabled worlds come crashing down, leaving each more alone than ever.

“Charlie Moose Makes His Move” was the Late Night Feature at our 4th annual Acting Out INK Fest of female playwrights last month. This jaw-dropping world premiere was chosen out of 23 incredible plays for our first ever Best of INK @Fringe.

MORE OF WHAT AUDIENCES ARE SAYING ABOUT CHARLIE MOOSE:

“The show is that rarest of things, both smart and funny. It’s written with an attention to and honest awareness of the deepest flaws of the human condition. The combination of VERY adult content along with the genuine and almost naive characters works perfectly. "

“One of the most challenging, hysterical, original plays I can remember from a playwright with a fearless imagination.”

“The characters successfully push boundaries and every character is SO deliciously flawed and they still manage to be endearing and watchable from the audience perspective . That is not easy to do.”

“The subject touched on so many different ways to feel othered or outcast and was able to express authentic reactions to those feelings. I loved that this play wasn’t a fairy tale. But also wasn’t overly pessimistic. It lives in a realm that feels so real, the audience hurts and loves when the characters do.”

“A really great work. It’s compassionate. And gives us a real look into some folks we may have never seen otherwise.”

“This is a fast-paced, multi-dimensional character study that brilliantly examines the ever-changing relationship between fantasy and reality, sanity and “insanity,” and the similar needs we have at all ages for human connection—and how we screw that up.”

“Despite the story being rather dark (in a great way), there was such a sense of charisma and vitality to the play, it had that child-like sense of wonder while still dealing with adult subject matter. This play was able to implore so much of what’s great about experimental/intimate theatre and put it into one piece and then put it’s own effervescent charm on top of it all.”

“From the start, the play takes you in its strange universe and introduces you to fascinating characters who bounce off each other in entertaining ways.”

“It’s bravely written, directed, and performed-and not brave in that “Um…I don’t know what to say after a play, so I’m gonna go with ‘brave,’” but brave in the actual definition of the word-fearlessly holding up a mirror to themes deep within our human nature, often hiding in our subconscious, and letting us know that we aren’t alone in the struggle.”

“The script is brilliant. The acting is amazing. It was hilarious and heartbreaking. The writing is impressively smart and funny, by far the best I have seen this year. I felt for these people, even when they were being awful to each other. A great sense of empathy balances the unhinged humor. If you have any sort of brain or feelings, if you are human, you cannot go wrong with this show.”

2Cents Theatre Group is an artistic organization dedicated to the rejuvenation and exposure of ART from all eras, expressed through theatrical mediums, drawing from the strengths, ambitions and aspirations of our diverse and evolving community of artists. Founded in 2012 as a group of artists who want to “voice their own two cents”, they’re now entering their fifth season, in residence at the Hudson Theatres in Hollywood.

Notable past productions include their award-winning intimate production of Jonathan Larson’s “RENT” (NAACP), last year’s critically acclaimed caper comedy “Den of Thieves”, a critically acclaimed unique interpretation of Jason Robert Brown’s “The Last Five Years”, the smash hit immersive sensation “The Rocky Horror Experience” and immersive Hollywood Fringe Festival favorites “Fugitive Songs” (Miller & Tysen) and their original “NILBOG” the Troll 2 musical parody. “NILBOG” is currently being workshopped at various venues, leading up to a world premiere opening Fall 2017. Los Angeles critics consistently remark at 2Cents’ daring originality while managing to respect the authentic story of whatever piece they’re taking on.

2Cents produces their annual "Acting Out INK Fest”, a 3-day Festival of female playwrights taking place at the Hudson Theatres each spring, featuring around 20 plays all written by women from around the country. INK Fest, now in its 4th year, involves over 100 actors, directors and other artists and is highly anticipated both locally and nationally. Parties, special feature productions, and a culminating awards ceremony at the end of the weekend embellish this wonderful ART-filled weekend. INK Fest was originally inspired by 2Cents’ non-profit partnership with LA Women’s Theatre Project.

2Cents also maintains an active outreach program. Most notably, paired with charitable organizations, the 2Cents Carolers travel around Los Angeles throughout the month of December singing for homeless shelters and supportive housing facilities. 2Cents also spends time in schools for underprivileged children leading workshops. And they partner with organizations to raise money for corresponding causes (ie AIDS research organizations paired with “RENT”). 2Cents is ultimately committed to bringing ART to everyone in the community, by whatever means necessary.
