Hollywood, CA: Talking Blues: Two One-Acts by Cecilia Fairchild is proud to present its world premier at the Los Angeles LGBT Center as part of the 2017 Hollywood Fringe Festival.

We live in the present, it seems like – but the past comes on us like a tide, seeping and spreading until we are married to it again, living it again. Ms. Fairchild’s American Gothic double-feature examines the way memory fuses itself to us, no matter how far we think we’ve come.

We are in good company as these parallel two-person narratives place us knee-deep in the poetic viscera of bad love. For better and for worse, our best fiends have left their marks, and all we can do after time hunts us down is to reach for redemption. From the plains of Oklahoma to a roach infested LA apartment, father and daughter reach for it. In a Catholic cemetery in the desert of West Texas, old flames reach for it.

L.A. native playwright Cecilia Fairchild joins the cast comprised of fellow USC School of Dramatic Arts alumni Claudia Elmore and James Bane. Rounding out the cast is Oklahoma native and slakeless antihero of the L.A. stage Darrett Sanders. At the helm are directors Stan Mayer – writer and U.S. Marine combat veteran, and Sam Bianchini – alumna of the UCLA School of Theater and of the stages of Chicago and Los Angeles.

David Bridel, renowned director, choreographer, and Dean of USC’s School of Dramatic Arts, has this to say this about Fairchild’s play: “The situation is crystalline, the dialogue is tender and funny and passionate…and the finale is actually brilliant. What a wonderful play…dark and twisted and raw and painful….I’m scared. In a good way.”
