FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LOS ANGELES – May 23, 2017 — Is Christianity what it is today because of a group of faithful? Or because it was a good tool to control the masses? Exploring this question is the drama NICAEA, which makes its world stage premiere at the 2017 Hollywood Fringe Festival.

LA-based film and TV writer Tricia Aurand brings her cutting, thoughtful dialogue to the stage with a powerhouse cast including stars-on-the-rise Anna Chazelle (La La Land) and Brendan Haley (A Noise Within), as well as Fringe veterans Morry Schorr (Skypilot) and Mikie Beatty (Annie Lesser’s B(arbershop), which landed on LA Weekly’s Best of Theater list last year).

Set at the Council of Nicaea in A.D. 325, NICAEA is a period political thriller that feels eerily relevant. Roman Emperor Constantine forces a group of early Christian theologians to get together and hash out language to clearly define their beliefs. The resulting argument shakes every person present to his core.

“NICAEA grapples with piety, power struggles and compromise,” said Aurand, who is also directing the show. “I wrote this play because when we put on our beliefs, we also put on their pasts. And we rehearse their futures.”

NICAEA opens at the Lounge theater on June 8, 2017. To purchase tickets, visit hff17.com/4410.
