F*ck Tinder: a love story is storytelling crack from The Moth champion David Rodwin. From a first date who unexpectedly brought along her infant, to hitting up a sex club with a woman who’d just said “I love you,” David brings you on a journey you’re glad he took and you didn’t. But what starts as a series of crazy stories of desperation and depravity grow into a tale of love that takes a strange twist.

David Rodwin (Writer/Performer) has created six other one-man shows including: VIRTUAL MOTION: A One-Man Hyper-Opera (Sacred Fools and 20 city tour), MONKS AND SLUTS AND STATESMEN, OH, MY! (Edinburgh), RAGING LOVE (Atlantic Center), TRIPPIN’ (LaMaMa ETC), ALL YOGIS BE CRAZY (Sedona Yoga Festival) and TOTAL NOVICE (HFF’14).

He’s directing the feature film of TOTAL NOVICE this fall and writing a book of FUCK TINDER as well. David also wrote a book about living and working with his mentor Spalding Gray at an arts colony shortly before his suicide called NEVER MEET YOUR IDOLS. David is the writer/composer of five operas performed from American Opera Projects to the O’Neill to The Public Theatre’s New Works Now. He’s worked in the writers’ rooms on a number of TV shows. And with his non-profit RIPFest he produced the world premieres of 170 of ten-minute musicals and 60 short films.

A word from David on process:
This is a world premiere. And I don’t write out scripts for my live storytelling. It’s a high-wire act that’s not just fresh, it’s developing on the fly! Everything you’re hearing tonight is true, besides name changes. It’s also just coming out of my head. While I have an outline of the show, the way I work is I remember what I said last time, tell it again, better, and feel for the audience’s reaction. Which means I also have an amazing stage manager. Thanks, Rachel.

I will continue to discover the show as the run goes along at Fringe and generally for the first few dozen performances. Why do I do it like this? It’s a technique I inherited from my mentor Spalding Gray and I find that writing with my mouth comes out more naturally for live performance than when I type something, memorize it and recite it. It’s a thrilling process, and I hope it creates something more visceral
