“From the get go, this is the funniest show, as far as pure comedy, I’ve seen all year […] Close to phenomenal!” — Patrick Chavis, LA Theatre Bites

SHITTY boasts an all Asian cast performing a poetically foul-mouthed, edgy, thought-provoking dark comedy, premiering this month (June 10th – 26th) at the Hollywood Fringe Festival.

“New exciting material, dedicated actors, great direction, and just a fun filled ride. I laughed the entire time and fell more in love with every actor each time they came back on stage. Dont miss it!” —Marisa Van Den Borre, Certified Review Hollywood Fringe

“The writing was excellent! The storyline complex and multilayered. What I liked best was that the story asked lots of questions. Very thought provoking.” —Louise Cobb, Certified Reviewer Hollywood Fringe

Parking enforcement officer Johnny Fu has just met the girl of his dreams. However, she has just committed an unspeakable act that Johnny isn’t sure he can move past. When he almost loses her after the argument, he realizes how much she means to him and vows to get her back with the help of his father, Chinese restaurant owner Master Fu, and his wacky sidekick waiter. Meanwhile, seasoned policeman Sarge, and his new apprentice Billy, are trying to solve a triple homicide murder case, involving victimsthat have all been savagely decapitated. Craziness ensues when the paths of love and murder intersect in this whodunit dark comedy of epic proportions. Humorous, dark, and emotionally real, SH*TTY will uncover the fears and insecurities we all mask in our daily lives, and the lifelong struggle of coming to terms with who we really are…sh*t and all.

ABOUT STEPHEN CHANG & JOHN WESELCOUCH:

Stephen Chang is a first time playwright from Los Gatos, California. He is delighted to be making his writing/producing debut at the Hollywood Fringe Festival. Recent acting credits include CBS’ Code Black, ABC Family’s Kevin From Work, Emmy-nominated Vanity, and the Emmy-Award winning web series Emma Approved. His first short film DADA! was accepted into the JRS film festival (check out the 7 minute video: vimeo.com/164042644). He has studied with Victor Villar-Hauser, John Rosenfeld, Anthony Meindl, and Greg Braun of New Collective. Catch Stephen in indie feature film’s Battlefield 4 and EMT coming out this fall.

John Weselcouch has been making movies with friends since he was a young boy in Fairfield, Connecticut. He studied film at Emerson College in Boston, Massachusetts and drove straight out to LA when he graduated. Although he likes to spend most of his time on stage and in front of the camera, he’s always had a passion for directing and decided to try it out on “Shitty.”

DIRECTOR’S NOTE:

A few years back, I was watching a scene in my acting class where a woman was trying to explain her way out of leaving a bag of poop on a man’s kitchen counter. I thought it was so hilarious that I asked one of the actors, Stephen Chang, where he got it from. I was shocked to hear that he wrote it and that it was part of a full length play he was currently working on. I asked if I could read it when he was done.

I did. I loved it. I told him he needed to produce it. He told me I needed to direct it. So we got to work.

Since then, everyone involved has given their all to make this project the best it can possibly be. I could not be more proud of all the hard work, dedication and trust the entire cast and crew have offered during this process.

Thank you for being here at the world premier of our strange little play. We’re well aware this material can be a bit polarizing, but I find there is always some value in discomfort.

Like pooping!

The only way out is through, my friends. So please, sit back, try to relax, and enjoy SHITTY. —JW
