COMPETITION GOES OFF THE CHARTS IN "CATHOLIC OLYMPICS"

The Catholic Olympics

view project

Hollywood, CA – While the world looks to Rio in 2016 it appears Hollywood has a jump on Olympic fever that will not only leave audiences cheering but also rolling in the aisles.

THE CATHOLIC OLYMPICS makes its world premier at The Complex as part of the Hollywood Fringe festival. Staged as an interactive radio play, Kealy DeWitt’s endearing but utterly irreverent farce transports the viewer to Rome, Italy, for the final day of competition—Catholic style—with a line up of nail-biting events, including the 500 Meter Nun Hurdle, and a virtual parade of humorously memorable characters.

With a top-notch line up of industry talent assembled for this one-of-kind production, director Robert O’Meara of Mark Your Calendar Productions, along with executive producer John Wilson, plan a new twist to a beloved format.

“I’ve directed, written and performed in dozens of radio programs outside of LA,” O’Meara says. “And I was always impressed with how much the audiences loved them. LA Theatre Works proves this here every month up at the Skirball. But in our show, the audience will actually play an important role in creating the reality of the performance—a truly immersive experience.”

“Radio drama never really went out,” Wilson says, returning to the producer chair after a several-year absence. “When Robert approached me about this outrageous property, I said ‘I’m in.’ With SPOTLIGHT winning the Best Picture Oscar this year, and with the Olympics in Rio around the corner, I couldn’t imagine producing a more relevant and enjoyable piece of theatre.”

In addition to a couple of professional voice-over artists, the entire cast of THE CATHOLIC OLYMPICS boast myriad credits in theatre, film, new media, and even stand-up.

“We go into rehearsals this week, and I think they are really going to knock it out of the park,” O’Meara says. The cast includes Natalie Gregory, Stuart Martz, Dan Moore, Michael Rosinsky, Heather Smith and Hershey Wingler.

The Mark Your Calendar Productions team staged the critically acclaimed BYE-BYE at the 2015 Fringe.
