“Unexpected Song,” “Take that Look Off Your Face” and “Tell Me On A Sunday”. Hear these gorgeous hit songs and the rest of Andrew Lloyd Webber, Don Black, and Richard Maltby Jr’s seldom produced song-cycle as Lucid by Proxy presents Tell Me On a Sunday directed by Calvin Remsberg and starring Shannon Nelson with musical direction by Richard Berent. Tell Me on a Sunday tells the story of British hat-maker Emma’s journey to America in search of creative success, love and a Green Card (not necessarily in that order). Her romantic misadventures take her on a journey from London to New York City to Los Angeles and back to Manhattan again as she realizes the road to love is never as simple as it seems and maybe it isn’t a romantic partner that she needs to be fulfilled.

Shannon Nelson starred as Tess Weinhaus in New Line Cinema’s cult classic Drop Dead Gorgeous and the multi-award winning web series’ Pairings. She was most recently seen onstage as the award winning Sally/The Bereaved in 2013 Hollywood Fringe (Best Play and Best Ensemble) and 2014 New York Fringe Festivals’ (Best Play and Best Ensemble) winning productions of Absolutely Filthy (StageScene LA Best Performance by a Featured Actress-Comedy, LA Weekly Nominee Best Comedic Actress and LA Weekly Award Winner – Best Ensemble). She produced last year’s 2015 Hollywood Fringe Festival Best Musical King of Kong: The Musical and has produced and starred in a number of award winning, critically lauded productions with her company Lucid by Proxy including a fantastical, industrial take on Stephen Sondheim’s Into the Woods set in a warehouse in downtown LA also directed by Calvin Remsberg and Save Me, a modern adaptation of Hedda Gabbler where she won a Best Lead Actress Performance Scenie award from StageSceneLA.

Calvin Remsberg is well known as both actor and director on both coasts. His acclaimed production of Bach at Leipzig is currently playing a seven week run at The Group Rep in North Hollywood. As an actor his esteemed credits include Sweeney Todd (First National, and Television productions), CATS, the acclaimed Los Angeles’ Phantom of the Opera, Man of La Mancha, and Oliver! And film/TV roles in “Pretty Woman,” “Shrek” and “The X-Files.” As a director his work has been much lauded including the Ovation Nominated Sunday in the Park with George and Sweeney Todd (Reprise! And Musical Theatre West), the American Premiere of F**king Men (The Celebration Theatre), The Medium, Educating Rita, Chapter Two, Dracula, Triumph of Love, The Sound of Music, Urinetown, Into the Woods (Lucid by Proxy), Hello, Dolly!(3D-Theatricals), The Last Five Years, Glory Days, and ten musicals for The Musical Theatre Guild. He directed Shuffle Along starring Arthur Ross for the Fringe Festival in 2014.

Richard Berent is on the Music faculty of AMDA Hollywood, where he teaches, coaches, accompanies, arranges, and music directs. His outside AMDA musical direction works include the aforementioned production of Into the Woods with Lucid by Proxy, Altar Boys, Musical of Musicals, Putting It Together, Golden Apple, and Girl Crazy and for 15 years he has been the musical director of the REAF celebrity AIDS benefit in San Francisco.

Lucid by Proxy is an independent, non-profit, Los Angeles theater production company founded in 2000. We specialize in the creation of original theatrical productions and have produced 20 new productions, including twelve full-length original plays (Asymmetry was published by Samuel French), four original short plays, a staged workshop of an original musical and an immersive production of Into the Woods set in a downtown LA industrial warehouse. Our collective of top-notch writers, designers, directors and actors have garnered a great deal of praise, including several Backstage West and Variety “Critic’s Picks” and Los Angeles Times and LAWeekly “Recommended Pick” and StageSceneLA Scenie Awards. Lucid by Proxy is committed to advancing the art form by helping professional theater artists produce their innovative work, and using that innovation to attract a new and younger theater audience. LbP advocates for both emerging and advanced artists, creating a space for their new work or new interpretations of classic works to be seen, heard and enjoyed.
