Description: What does it mean to be 20 something in 2016? What does is mean to be a woman? What does it mean to be a person of color? complex[ion] woman explores the intricacies of the everyday experiences of the contemporary women of color in 2016.

From making decisions such as straightening or curling our natural hair to coping with issues such as depression in the Black community, women of color live lives that are unique in their experience but universal in their issue.

complex[ion] woman is honest, controversial, funny, and sad. But that’s what makes us complex.

About the Writers:

Tasha was Born in Dallas Texas, the land of vicious smiles and back-handed compliments. Fittingly, her writing is a unity of opposites. A two time Pageant loser, Tasha has an appreciation for the dark, comedic and the darkly comedic. After graduating from Oklahoma State University, with a B.A. in Film Studies, Tasha went on to earn her M.F.A in Screenwriting from Loyola Marymount University. with a Her style is life lessons with a body count.

Ebony Gilbert grew up in Little Haiti, a community that exist in the shadows of a glamorous Miami, FL. Surrounded by drugs, poverty, and violence, her escape was writing about it. She would later write numerous stories and articles about minority youth including Life’s Scale is Sadly Unbalanced for the Miami Herald and Trayvon Martin: the modern day Emmett Till for the Miami Times. Her love for words and literature continued as she pursued her B.A. in English from the University of Florida. And then her M.F.A. in Screenwriting from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, California. She has interned at Will Smith’s company Overbrook, The Queen Latifah Show, BET, and DeVon Franklin’s company Franklin Entertainment. Gilbert’s work highlights marginalized communities, gives a voice to the voiceless and captures the experiences of the disenfranchised.
