“Sincerely,” Is Scheduled for Five Shows Throughout June at the Theatre Asylum at Elephant Studio in Hollywood

LOS ANGELES, CA. – June 7, 2015 – Happiness is never what it seems; and some people just seem to be luckier than others. Through storytelling, vignettes and poetry, Leslie Murphy’s solo show, “Sincerely,” has captured the essence of what it’s like to persevere through trying times with humor, and finding solace in the most unlikely of places.

“Sincerely,” directed by Rebecca Hengstenberg, is Leslie’s first featured solo show as writer and performer. The show is based on a series of unfortunate events that took place over a span of two years. From heartbreak, to a night in jail, to an apartment break-in and three months of nomadic couch-hopping, to lost body parts in door hinges of jobs you hate, to the letters from strangers that arrived once a week in the mail. “Sincerely,” takes you from rock bottom, up through the thick of it, and back out the side window. This tragically funny show explores what it means to recognize yourself, even at your worst, and why the connections we find in the least likely of places are sometimes the ones we need most.

“‘Sincerely,’ was written after a particularly challenging time in my life that I somehow survived – and actually manage to find a lot of humor in now,” said Leslie. “It was a time that made me realize how important a sense of humor and human connection are for surviving what life inevitably throws at you. I’d love ‘Sincerely,’ to make people laugh – and hopefully relate a little – but mostly to see how happiness, found in a variety of places and different forms, is rarely ever one thing, and never the same for everyone.”

Leslie’s acting resume includes her starring role in the 2013 Fringe Festival’s “Ryan is Lost,” for which she was awarded the Ezra Buzzington Spirit of the Fringe award for Best Female Performance. Among her roles in TV shows and movies such as House, Cold Case, Franklin & Bash, White Irish Drinkers, and Seeking a Friend for the End of the World, Leslie has always loved the stage and has been a proud supporter of LA theater for ten years.

Leslie has also recently written a black and white short film, inspired by the classic comedies of Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin, called A Day At The Beach, that is currently making its rounds at film festivals.
