New Comedy Premieres At Hollywood Fringe Festival June 14

HOLLYWOOD, CA — Warren G. Harding is in love. And he’s not paying attention. He is the “best of the second-raters” choice for the Republican nomination. His mistress is a German sympathizer, his most ardent admirer is a 14-year old girl with plans, and his backers are out-of-control corrupt. That’s the premise of the satirical new doo-wop comedy “Warren and the Teapots” which makes its world premiere at next month’s Hollywood Fringe Festival (http://www.hollywoodfringe.org/projects/2183).

Written by Jeffery Atik and directed by Kenneth Rudnicki, “Warren and the Teapots” follows the rise of Warren G. Harding who becomes America’s worst president – and the cabal of Republican senators (realized as the 50s doo-wop group The Teapots) who celebrate Warren’s unmistakable mediocrity.

The cast includes Bo Roberts (as Warren G. Harding), Martha Duncan, Linda Landeros, Cynthia Mance, Achilles Molina, and Renee Ulloa-Macdonald.

“How did someone so incurious become President?” asks playwright Atik. “You read his speeches – no one is home. It seems he was distracted.”

“We’re having fun with the doo-wop Republican senators who form The Teapots,” adds director Rudnicki. “They sing, they step and they savor the prospect to plunder the government.”

The play is produced by the L.A.-based theatrical development company Portable Currency, whose members include Atik, Rudnicki, and Cynthia Mance. Portable Currency produced Jeffery Atik’s TELENOVELA WIVES OF PANCHO VILLA, a 2014 Pick of the Hollywood Fringe.
