Heather Dowling makes her Hollywood Fringe debut with a unique one-woman show that explores her quest to unemployment – going through 30 jobs in 30 years!

LOS ANGELES – Heather Dowling is finally ready to give up all the pay-the-bills jobs that have made up the majority of her life. It’s been many, many years of ridiculous work, learning experiences, never-ending personal growth and bizarre characters. But now, finally, she says…

“I quit!”

Unemployed. Finally. is the story of a woman who tried on 30 jobs in 30 years before finally doing what everyone said she couldn’t. Dowling is an actress and writer who has impersonated someone who wanted a “real job” since she was 14. She has finally surrendered to her passion for writing and performing, but now she has dirt to dish about the odd jobs and oddballs she’s encountered along her journey.

She is thrilled to make her Hollywood Fringe debut with this one-woman show running through June at select times at Theatre Asylum’s Elephant Studio.

“I’ve spent enough of my life trying to figure out what to do, doing things I didn’t really want to…and now that I know what I want to do, I’m taking action,” Dowling said. “This is really a story to tell about the beginning of my performing and writing career. I knew that throwing my hat into the ring for Hollywood Fringe would put my butt in the game to tell this story and not let myself off the hook.”

Dowling, a Colorado-born actor and writer, is also benefiting from the direction of acclaimed solo artist Jessica Lynn Johnson. Johnson has received several awards for her solo shows, touring internationally for over a decade. Her solo show Oblivious to Everyone has been published and her solo show ZE is in pre-production for film development. Johnson’s work has been seen in several festivals across the country and Off Broadway. Johnson also teaches and directs solo theatre through her company Soaring Solo, which is how she met Dowling.

“I love how this has come together,” Dowling said. “Fringe is such an incredible melting pot of extraordinary talent and passion. It’s a privilege to be surrounded by and supported by such brave and original artists. This is not a ‘statement’ play about any of the world’s ills, and it’s not a satire of those ills, either. It’s a genuine, funny, sometimes sad, and real story about a woman who comes to a point in life where she has the courage to go for what she wants – and inviting others to consider that, no matter what they’ve been through, no matter what their journey has looked like, they really can newly create the life they want, a life they love.”
