Dr. Denee Jordan stars in her one woman show ‘I Am Already Well.’

Dr. Denee Jordan is a practicing psychotherapist, and is now venturing out, ‘taking her expertise on the road,” to the Lounge Theatre. She has specialized in the treatment of people with mental disorders, and has now put on a remarkable, interactive one woman show, entitled, “I Am Already Well.”

The play is an emotional catharsis, a compilation of her treatment therapy and her own self-exploration. She is a professional dancer and choreographer, which shines through, especially in the finale, an exquisite modern dance routine.

The first character that the audience meets is “Cosmosia,” a free-spirited hippie. She starts out with a meditation, inviting the audience to ‘breathe deep,’ and inhale positivity. Musical interludes are a constant, introducing the melange of characters. Onstage are five mannequin heads you’d likely find in a beauty salon, each donning a unique wig. As she changes wardrobe onstage, she creatively morphs into her characters. As Denee leads us on a magical ride, “with no seatbelt required,” we feel connected and uplifted, as she explains how the human being is a blend of ‘animal and spirit.’

One alter ego is Miss Vigil, the strict critic within, whose mantra is ‘perfection is my goal.’ Roger the Rager is a foul mouthed realist, who deep down, reveals his bravado is a mask of fear. Dede is the inner child, mustering up the courage to tap dance, unconditionally loving her daddy. And Verna Eterna is a sexy ingenue, who shows that beauty comes from outside and works its way in.

When Denee Jordan embraces her kimono, she becomes the authentic person and adored therapist she truly is. Even though her characters battle each other, she rises like a phoenix among the ashes. Her evocative performance depicts a lost soul, objectively and subjectively, living each life in her own psyche.
