SHUFFLE ALONG
Los Angeles (June 26th, 2014) – Multi Award winning Director, Choreographer and Performer Arthur L. Ross stars in his one man show, SHUFFLE ALONG, the journey of the black actor on the musical stage. Directed by Calvin Remsberg and conceived by Calvin Remsberg and Arthur L. Ross, and produced by Bedazzled Productions in association with Mike Abramson, Shuffle Along plays at The Hudson Mainstage Theatre for five performances only.
From the early vaudeville days of Bert Williams to the first black Phantom of the Opera, Norm Lewis, Shuffle Along chronicles the struggles and triumphs of some of Broadway’s most beloved treasures as they veer away from the infamous days of Blackface to become some of Broadways biggest Tony Award winning legends. With a song list packed full of Broadway Gems and Classics, you will enjoy songs from such hit musicals as The Wiz, Pippin and Show Boat just to name a few. ]
Arthur is an Adjunct Faculty Member at Cypress College in the Theatre and Dance Department; teaching tap, hip-hop and choreographing for the Faculty Dance Concerts and Musical Theatre Productions. He has an M.F.A. degree in Acting from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and a B.A. in Communications degree specializing in directing/choreography from Bowling Green State University. Arthur has also trained at the acclaimed South Coast Repertory Theatre’s Professional Acting Conservatory. Currently, Arthur is the Artistic Director/Creator of Bedazzled Productions; a Special Events and Live Theatrical Events Production Company. You can also find him performing regularly at Universal Studios Hollywood either singing as Curtis in the Blues Brother’s R&B Revue, dancing in the streets as a super cool renegade Park Services Employee in the hip-hop atmosphere show Street Sweep. Calvin Remsberg is known both as an accomplished actor and noted theatre director. His most recent work includes the revival of BARE, the Los Angeles premiere of Glory Days, and an unusual production of Into the Woods starring Anthony Geary, done in an abandoned warehouse in downtown Los Angeles. He directed Hello, Dolly! starring Ruth Williamson for 3-D Theatricals in Santa Ana, and Sweeney Todd for Musical Theatre West in Long Beach. He also directed the Twentieth Anniversary production of Sweeney Todd for Reprise! at the Ahmanson Theatre starring Kelsey Grammer, Christine Baranski, and Neil Patrick Harris. In addition, he directed the award winning West Coast Ensemble production of Sunday in the Park with George, and Interact Theatre Company’s Urinetown. In 2009, he directed David Hyde Pierce and Victoria Clark in Night and Day: A Cole Porter Evening at Lincoln Center. For The Musical Theatre Guild, he has directed Shenandoah, Parade, The Mystery of Edwin Drood, Street Scene, Aspects of Love, Titanic, The Most Happy Fella, and Death Takes a Holiday, and he also directed the award winning revival of Damon Intrabartolo and John Hartmere’s Bare, which sold out it’s entire run.
Musical Direction is by Bradley Scott Hampton, Technical Design is by Kevin Valentine, Costume design is by Elizabeth Spencer, Makeup Design is by Emily King and the Production Stage Manager is Tiffany Thomas. Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle and LA Weekly Theater Award winner Mike Abramson produces alongside Bedazzled Productions.
Shuffle Along runs for five performances only commencing on June 14th with a closing date set for Saturday June 28th. Performances are held on Saturdays at 3 PM and Sundays at 7 PM at The Hudson Mainstage Theatre 6539 Santa Monica Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90038. General Admission is $20.
