What happens when everyone is relentlessly ambitious and “Special?” What happens when they compete on one stage to be the most effective “Thought Leader?”
The “Presentation Culture” of TED Talks and corporate meeting rooms everywhere gets skewered in the world premiere of DEATH BY POWERPOINT1, at the 2014 Hollywood Fringe Festival. DEATH BY POWERPOINT features four professional thought-leaders who attempt to destroy “Cherished Beliefs” that 21st century moderns may hold dear as they compete for Money, Glory and PowerPoint Immortality.
The play is set at the fictional National Global Influencers Finals, where the country’s top speakers compete to destroy the audience’s deeply-held beliefs in their quest to be crowned ‘National Global Influencers’ champion. A comic and slightly existential attack on values that 21st century moderns may hold dear, DEATH BY POWERPOINT features four thought-provoking presentations in a contest that becomes life-or-death itself.
DEATH BY POWERPOINT stars (in alphabetical order) Rachel Addington, Scarlett Bermingham, Ryan Klamen, Eric Pierce, Michael Riffle and Emilly Thomas.
DEATH BY POWERPOINT is written, directed and produced by James F. Robinson. Robinson conceived the idea for the show 10 years ago when he was Founder and CEO of an international new media company. DEATH BY POWERPOINT was born to examine the dramatic and theatrical possibilities of this new and now ubiquitous “Presentation” form of communication/theater. DEATH BY POWERPOINT is Robinson’s first play, both as a playwright and director. He previously wrote and directed the October Films/Paramount International release STILL BREATHING starring Brendan Fraser, Joanna Going and Celeste Holm.
