OAKLAND’S A LITTLE BIT OFF PRESENTS WORLD PREMIERE OF BEAU & AERO
June 6-22, 2014 * The Dorie Theatre at The Complex * 6476 Santa Monica Blvd (at Wilcox)

(Hollywood, CA) On June 6th, Oakland-based duo A Little Bit Off (ALBO) will present the world premiere of their new production, Beau & Aero, in a pay-what-you-can preview show, as part of the 2014 Hollywood Fringe Festival. Reminiscent of the silent film antics of Chaplin and Keaton, the show features two clown aviators, as they explore the imagery of flight, in a world where balloons are abundant and laughs are bountiful. A Little Bit Off will present Beau & Aero seven times in Dorie Theatre at The Complex, running June 6th through 22nd.

The show blends clown with elements of acrobatics, juggling, mime, and puppetry, to create a unique and beautiful vocabulary of movement. The company’s strong vintage aesthetic, paired with their ridiculous antics onstage, crafts an absurd reality that is difficult not to be drawn into. Far from the typical displays of acrobatics and juggling, the performers seamlessly fuse their skills into a compelling story.

A Little Bit Off set forth on a mission to integrate clown and circus skills into theatrical worlds. “Our goal was to create playgrounds of our imagination, and then to invite the audience in,” said David Cantor, co-founder and performer in the company. Last season, ALBO toured their production, Bilgewater, through several European countries. They were inspired by the vibrant contemporary circus and clown performances that they were exposed to while traveling, and drew heavily from those experiences in the creation of their new show.

Unlike their Ringlingesque cousins, ALBO creates a subtler flavor of clown, without the big shoes or bright wigs. Their early vision was influenced by the devised work of James Thierree and Le Cirque Invisible, as well as the great clowns and vaudevillians of the early 20th century. Like their predecessors, ALBO seeks to connect people to their humanity through humor, beauty, and emotion. “We want to let the audience get to know us, so that they can laugh with us… but also, you know… at us,” explains Amica Hunter, the company’s other co-founder and performer.

A Little Bit Off’s World Premier of Beau & Aero will take place in The Dorie Theatre at the Complex, located at 6476 Santa Monica Blvd. June 6, 13, and 20 at 9 pm, June 14 at 5 pm, June 15 and 22 at 3 pm and June 21 at 11 pm. For tickets visit www.hollywoodfringe.org/projects/1558
