I WANT TO BURY MY TESTIMONY
Written and Performed by Scott Hislop
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 18, 2014
Once a month at church services, a bold, young Scott Hislop marched up to the pulpit and stated confidently “I WANT TO BURY MY TESTIMONY”. It never dawned on him he got the words wrong, nor that, 30 years later, he’d make good on that promise. Scott did however, discover, he could make an audience laugh.
This 1man adventure begins in Salt Lake City, takes a hard right in Reno and lands square in the middle of the Hollywood Fringe Festival. Writer and performer Hislop (Another Round, The Curious Case of Benjamin Buttons, Steam) will unearth age old notions of faith and masculinity with humor and frankness, grind them up to ashes and lay them to rest for good. Like an open book (of Mormon), Scott shines a light on the dangers of raising up boys to fit one pre-cut manly mold and how that traumatizes a whole segment of gay youth. All that, while singing and dancing…in a closet…literally.
A multimedia extravaganza, a tour-de-force of feeling, TESTIMONY promises to delight on every front, providing you take your truth with a dollop of kitsch. Directed by the incomparable Kelleia Sheerin (Gangster Squad, Broadway’s Urban Cowboy). This is a world premiere memorial you won’t want to miss.
