K@ KNIPS – BITE SIZE FRINGE REVIEWS WEEK 3, BY KAT PRIMEAU
The Miss Julie Dream Project
THE MISS JULIE DREAM PROJECT – Fell Swoop Playwright’s exploration of and modern digressions upon Strindberg’s A DREAM PLAY and MISS JULIE is surreal, smart, and refreshingly funny. The story plays out along the lines of Durang’s THE ACTOR’S NIGHTMARE, with Miss Julie and the actress who plays her, Mina, dueling for sanity amidst a landscape of hegemonic masculinity and nightmarish threats of violence, no happy ending in sight. An overall charming and self-reflexive piece, the script at times feels like the assemblage of many voices that it is; however, I found myself engaged by the experiment and excited by the promising ambition of this new playwriting collective.
