CAST
“Tony Rico” – Homer Barrera (Playwright, Composer & Director)
Homer Barrera graduated from the University of Texas, where he performed in Teahouse of the August Moon as well as playing in the Longhorn Band. He did a 3-year stint in the U.S. Army Band before coming to Los Angeles. A published poet, his work has appeared in the Anthology of Mexican-American Poetry (Pendulum Press, the Texas Observer (George I. Sanchez: Don Quixote of the Texas Plains), Hello, World Zine (Michael Jasorka, Publisher), and La Opinion, Los Angeles Spanish daily newspaper. In 1997, he was awarded the Grand Prize in the Nosotros International One-Act Playwriting Competition for his work, Waiting for Callas to Sing. He studied with Larry McMurtry, Octavio Paz, Al Kasha, and Boris Pillin.

“Lucy”– Hebe Barrera (Producer)

Hebe’s favorite acting roles, aside from Lucy, have included the Mother in Blood Wedding, Madame Gere in Robert Chauls’ Phantom of the Opera, Birdie Hubbard in The Little Foxes, Sister in Damn Yankees, the Mayor’s Wife in Bye Bye Birdie, Reporter in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, the Grandmother in The Rooster and the Egg (El huevo del gallo), the Mother in Wyandotte, and d. Ana in El burlador de Sevilla.


“Angel/Mária Callas” – Stephanie Williams
“Stephanie Williams is blessed and grateful for this opportunity to sing as Mária Callas! She received her Vocal Performance degree from Chapman University studying under opera diva, Carol Neblett. Stephanie currently runs her own voice studio in the Silver Lake area of Los Angeles and enjoys singing and teaching all genres of music. stephaniewilliamsvoicestudio.com”


MUSICIANS
Francisco Mora Rugama (Pre-Show Guitar)
Francisco Mora Rugama is a singer/songwriter originally from Nicaragua living in Los Angeles with an interest in acting and performing.


Boris William Pillin (Keyboard)
Noted composer and educator Boris Pillin was awarded the Most Outstanding Man in the Music Department at LACC, given by Leslie P. Clausen in 1960 and received an A.B. Degree cum laude from UCLA in 1964, as well as an A.M. Degree in Musicology from USC in 1967. He also received a Woodrow Wilson Fellowship and an ASCAP Supplementary Panel Award. His Symphony, Op. 3, was one of four winners at the Louisville New Music Competition. Mr. Pillin states, “As Vice President of Education for the M. Callas Foundation for the Vocal Arts, Inc., it is my goal to have workshops and classes promoting opera and classical music to young people and the general public.” We are honored to have him participate in the production of Waiting for Callas to Sing.
