Sacred Fools Company Member Nathan Wellman’s two person play Ryan is Lost will have its world premiere at the Theatre of NOTE during the Hollywood Fringe this summer.

What began as a small passion project grew into a much larger machine when the script – Wellman’s first full-length play – caught the eye of acclaimed television director Michael Nankin (Defiance, Battlestar Galactica). Nankin has since cast Leslie Murphy (Seeking a Friend For the End of the World) and Fringe veteran David Haverty (Sketches from the National Lampoon, Doomsday Cabaret). The slightly absurdist play explores themes of selfishness and failure, concerning a brother and sister who lose their nephew at a busy mall.

Synopsis: Avis and Frank have lost their nephew, Ryan, in the middle of a crowded mall. They wait at the pre-agreed-upon meeting spot for him to show up, assuring themselves that he’s fine. But the two quickly forget all about Ryan as they tear into each other’s imperfections, from Frank’s divorce to Avis’s obsession with being as perfect as Ryan’s mother, Leah. The longer they wait, the more despair starts to set in, but still they take no action. Leah starts to call Avis’s cell phone to check up on them, but Avis never answers. They become terrified not for Ryan’s safety, but of the almost assured destruction of their reputations. Even after the mall has closed down for the night, they continue to wait and bicker until things escalate to violence and greater tragedy. It becomes increasingly clear that they will never find Ryan because they are just as lost as he is.

The play runs at 9:50pm on June 14/29 and at 7:30pm on June 21/28 at Theatre of NOTE as a part of the Hollywood Fringe Festival. Ticket prices are only $10 at the door or through hollywoodfringe.com. Press can contact the production at [email protected] or at 606-923-9902.
