We aren’t interested in making a profit; we just want to make a play.

Los Angeles, CA – May 21, 2013 – 1140 Productions is excited to present Maria Irene Fornes’ “Mud”, a play in seventeen scenes, in the 2013 Hollywood Fringe Festival. This 50 minute-story is a visual play depicting life’s natural relationships in surreal situations. Mae, an uneducated woman who strives for knowledge, is trapped in a world that can neither be described as human nor animal. When Henry, an older gentleman, takes the role of her lover from Lloyd, her life long companion, she finds herself unable to break free from this dystopia. “Mud” revolves around these three characters who are rotting in their lack of virtue. It is a beautiful tragedy of the misunderstandings of life and death.

This production features three inspiring actors who are studying at the USC School of Dramatic Arts: Annie Hamilton as Mae, Riley Smith as Lloyd, and AJ Helfet as Henry. These three give their characters life in the barbaric world created by Fornes. The show represents a method coined and defined by 1140 Productions: ‘supernaturalism’. This method takes naturalism movement (referring to the representing life’s most natural moments) and combines it with the idea of supernaturalism (referring to the paranormal moments that cannot logically be explained – the moments in life that just happen). A at some points the actions and motivations may seem hyperbolized or dramatic, but the emotions and situations are completely naturalistic.

1140 Productions and the team of “Mud” would like to extend an offer for press to request complimentary tickets for any performance throughout the run. Press may do this by going to www.hollywoodfringe.org/projects/1225, selecting the desired date under “Buy Tickets” and entering the discount code “comp”. “Mud” previews June 7 and 11 at 7p.m. and runs from June 13-29, 2013; general admission is $5.00. The show performs at The Actors Company, 916 N. Formosa Ave.
