FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
THE VAGRANCY PRESENTS THE
LOS ANGELES PREMIERE OF TOMMY SMITH’S
WHITE HOT
“a fever blister of a play”
- Michael Strangeways, Seattle Gay Scene

LOS ANGELES, CA. MAY 1st, 2013 – Downtown artist Tommy Smith’s WHITE HOT had its New York Premiere at The Flea Theater in April. Now, The Vagrancy is honored to bring you the raw, intimate and emotionally-invasive Los Angeles Premiere helmed by Caitlin Hart at the Hollywood Fringe Festival 2013. This dark, psychological thriller is encased in a tight love triangle between a troubled woman, her sexy sister and opportunistic husband. The play opens at Theatre Asylum Lab and plays June 7th-June 28th.

“WHITE HOT is bleak terrain, a buried cesspool of self-loathing and unseemly, sadistic yearnings in love. The play can be read as a critique of the deadening fallout of our reactionary, materialistic, exploitative and soulless era. It can be read as a bad dream or a soap opera about the banality of evil. However you read it, it doesn’t go down easy.” Craig Lucas, New York Theatre Review

Director Caitlin Hart says, “I am eager to share Tommy Smith with Los Angeles. This production of WHITE HOT confronts the fears and profound fantasies we indulge while seeking validation and comfort from one another.” Playwright Tommy Smith says,“WHITE HOT is very edgy, adult, challenging…when people say their life was changed by theatre, it is never a show that is pleasant.”

Tommy Smith has quite a number of projects in the works.
