Miss Julie’s crazy again tonight. So is the actress playing her.

Los Angeles, CA — Fell Swoop Playwrights present the world premiere of THE MISS JULIE DREAM PROJECT, directed by Katie Chidester, at the 2013 Hollywood Fringe Festival. THE MISS JULIE DREAM PROJECT begins June 11 at the Three Clubs Cocktail Lounge in Los Angeles and runs for six performances through June 26.

Nine members of Fell Swoop Playwrights collaborated to riff on two of August Strindberg’s most famous plays, MISS JULIE and A DREAM PLAY. THE MISS JULIE DREAM PROJECT tells the story of Mina, an actress eager to take on the celebrated role of Miss Julie. She finds herself in a nightmarish struggle with the character, as this time Julie refuses to accept her tragic fate. Darkly humorous and devilishly insightful, Fell Swoop’s new play catapults our understanding of Strindberg into the 21st century, taking on issues of femininity, sexuality, and the challenges of interpreting difficult works of art.

*Featuring Elan O’Connor, Alison Plott, Edward Alvarado, Tim Venable, Sasha Harris, and Corrine Glazer.

Written by Meghan Brown, Samm Hill, J. Holtham, Abbe Levine, Michelle Meyers, Tira Palmquist, Emily Brauer Rogers, Brenda Varda, and Kyle T. Wilson.

“We wanted our first production to be a collaborative effort,” said Wilson, Fell Swoop Playwrights’ Co-Founder and Co-Executive Producer, “and the idea of writing a dream play appealed to me as a way to allow several voices in a unified work. Strindberg seemed a natural fit.”

Fell Swoop Playwrights is a collective of 13 Southern California-based playwrights working together to make developmental and production opportunities for themselves. Founded in 2012 by Tira Palmquist and Kyle T. Wilson, Fell Swoop’s mission is simple: to serve member playwrights by providing ongoing workshops, dramaturgical and administrative support, and opportunities—on the playwright’s terms.

Members of Fell Swoop Playwrights have had their plays developed and/or produced by Rogue Machine, Clubbed Thumb, the Lark Play Development Center, Barnyard Theatre, the Working Theater Collective, Ensemble Studio Theatre (NYC), EST/LA, the Williamstown Theatre Festival, New Dramatists, Magic Theater, CalArts, USC School of Theatre, Center Theatre Group’s Writers’ Workshop, and many others.
