LOS ANGELES, April 30th, 2013 — AWARD-WINNING off-Broadway playwright Jen Silverman and director/producer Alexander Thomas Scott are excited to announce the WORLD PREMIERE of their newest play CLEANER THAN BLOOD, part of the 2013 Hollywood Fringe Festival.

Paul and Jeffery are much more than just squatters in an abandoned basement; they’re schemers, waiting for just the right time to strike. But when they’re discovered by Marr, an ambitious young woman offering to hire the two of them as hitmen, it prompts an evening of introductions, cross-examinations, and a game that spins wildly out of control.

CLEANER THAN BLOOD features Austin Iredale as Paul, Maggie Blake as Marr, and Kjai Block as Jeffery. Together, their stage credits include Machu Picchu, Texas, The Diviners, Hamlet, The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds, Tattoo Girl, Lost In Yonkers, and Urinetown. Audiences are advised this production includes strong language, mature themes, mild violence, and the brief use of herbal cigarettes. It is not intended for anyone under the age of fifteen.

Jen Silverman’s plays have been developed with The Lark, New York Stage & Film/ Powerhouse Theatre Company, the Bay Area Playwrights Festival, the hotINK International Festival (NYC), The University of Iowa, and Seven Devils Playwrights Conference. Her play Crane Story premiered off-Broadway in 2011 with The Playwrights Realm, and the one-act The Education Of Macoloco won the 2009 Samuel French Off-Off Broadway Play Festival and was published by Samuel French. Most recently, her play Still was selected from almost 1,100 entries from 30 countries as the winner of the 2013 Yale Drama Series. It will be published by Yale University Press, receive a staged reading at Lincoln Center Theater’s Claire Tow Theater, and a cash award of $10,000. Silverman holds a BA from Brown University and an MFA from the Iowa Playwrights Workshop. She was raised in Japan, Europe, and Finland as well as in the United States and has continued her nomadic lifestyle, living and travelling in Asia, North Africa, and South America as an adult. She currently lives in New York City and is working on her first book of poetry.

Alexander Thomas Scott is an award-winning film director, producer, and theatre artist. In 2011 his experimental short film Wish You Were (Here) premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and last year he brought Nostalgium, a twisted tale of drug-addiction and body dysmorphia, to the Hollywood Fringe. Currently, his short film Jägerbär, an award-winning adaptation of Goldilocks, is touring the country at various film festivals. He is slated to direct his next film, Stranger, this July.
