NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCKCHAIN

New Kids on the Blockchain

view project

Viv Ford brings her hilarious debut stand up hour ‘New Kids On The Blockchain’ to the Hollywood Fringe Festival.

You’re invited to the Crypto Castle! Don’t worry, zero crypto knowledge is needed…Viv will tell her comedic true story of accidentally moving into this castle in San Francisco in 2015. It’s actually not a castle, it’s a 3-story light blue townhouse that has 5 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and 14 male roommates who are all deeply invested in cryptocurrencies. Viv is completely unfamiliar with Bitcoin, even though it is valued at $250 per coin (to put things into perspective, today, Bitcoin is worth around $65,000 per coin). Her parents are professors in the humanities which meant that she had a strict technology rule growing up, so had very little exposure to it. She was allowed 30 minutes of computer time per week and one movie on Sundays. From a young age, Viv was obsessed with all the technology that she wasn’t allowed to have: GameBoys, Playstations, computers, palm pilots, Razr phones. She made it her goal to get to the center of technology after college.

For the first two years at the Crypto Castle, Viv soaks up the crypto brothers around her and learns that love is a waste of time, crypto is the future, and death is optional. By November 2017, the value of bitcoin skyrockets to $10,000. It took 9 years for bitcoin’s value to jump from $0 to $10,000. And then, just two weeks later, bitcoin’s price hits $20,000 per coin. All of a sudden, crypto is no longer seen as this weird subculture that only involuntary celibates are into… Reporters and inquisitive members of the public started coming to the castle asking questions about how a group of random hacker boys, and one girl, are seemingly predicting the future.

As the crypto family get more and more confident in their predictions, they start to dabble in questionable activities. Viv grapples with her identity and the true nature of her surroundings. Is she just an outsider, the only non-millionaire amongst the boys, or does
she belong in their world of digital dreams? Join Viv on a hilarious and thought-provoking journey as she navigates the highs and lows of the crypto craze, teaches the audience about crypto, and questions her beliefs and discovering what truly matters in a
world ruled by blockchain.

Viv Ford has been in the crypto industry since 2015. She spent several years consulting for different projects while working for an artificial intelligence company as the Senior Vice President of Operations. She also spent one year traveling to 24 different countries teaching people about the basics of crypto. Since 2021, she has worked at Aleo as their Vice President of Community.

She has been performing and studying improvisational comedy since 2013. Her teachers hail from UCB, Second City, The Magnet, Finest City Improv, and Endgames. She is currently a member of Improv Dot Gov, the only government-sponsored improv troupe (for legal reasons, it needs to be stated that this is false). She is also part of the Armory House Team where she performs the Apocalypse Form with Game Over, Man.

She actively performs at storytelling shows and has been a member of Pretty Funny Comedy Collective since 2022.

An avid bicyclist, when she’s not performing, you can catch her either at crypto conferences speaking about communities or on spontaneous, multi-week bicycle trips.
